| Sex, Lies and Love? | ||
WYA, in partnership with Empowerment Theatre and Street Teams, worked with young women who have been abused or exploited, or were at risk of exploitation, to design a series of workshops looking at healthy and unhealthy relationships and issues of control, exploitation and "grooming". Grooming is when someone forms a relationship with a more vulnerable person to gain their trust, then uses their power to manipulate and exploit them.

The workshops were launched during Walsall's first Grooming Awareness Week, as "Sex, Lies & Love?". Groups of young women from local schools and groups attended workshops over two days. The first day was drama-based work exploring issues such as healthy and unhealthy relationships, spotting the signs of grooming, the perception of prostitution versus the reality of abuse, and sources of help and support. |

On the second day, participants split into smaller groups to discuss and create art work expressing and reflecting on what they had learned. |

These art works were later shared with professionals, participants and their peers at an Open Day at Walsall Town Hall. Sex, Lies & Love? is being externally evaluated by NACRO and has been short-listed for a Community Care Award. |
