Breaking The Silence

Walsall's South Health Action Zone (S.HAZ) identified a lack of resources and services for South Asian communities. As part of S.HAZ's response, Breaking The Silence is a video designed to be taken into community groups and schools by trained workers, to help inspire discussion about the effects of drug use and substance abuse in South Asian communities.

Interviewers consulted doctors, community leaders, local residents and other people affected by drug use in the community to record their views on video. Breaking The Silence is accompanied by a resource pack to enable discussion.

Smokin'

Walsall Youth Arts was also commissioned to make a consultative video exploring the taboo subject of smoking and tobacco use in South Asian communities. Accompanied by appropriate resources, it is also intended as a discussion aid to be used by community groups, schools and other agencies.

Smokin' was recently shown on The Community Channel.
