"New Gear, New Artists" Moving Image Project

Walsall Youth Arts has always worked with video and, with the support of the Regional Arts Lottery Programme through the Arts Council of England – West Midlands, recently updated its facilities as part of a major Moving Image Programme enhancing facilities in the region.

This program has had a significant effect, enabling young people to learn to use our equipment to create moving image pieces on their own initiative, as well as through projects such as the Daw End and Mary Elliot videos.

Around 12 new moving image pieces should be finished by April 2004, when a ‘Premiere’ will be held to show some of the new work.

Club Night Capers

Dreams and aspirations are the inspiration for young people at Mary Elliot youth club. From flying a bi-plane to taming a wild horse, their imaginations have run wild during the course of the project.

Artist Peter Chaplin introduced the group to a variety of visual arts activities at their weekly gathering, and the young people got to grips with digital video recording to film their progress.

The result is a colourful journey through what can come out of your head if you'll only let it!

Out of the Daw

Walsall Youth Arts teamed up with a group of young men from Daw End School. The year 11 students were taking a closer look at what makes them tick, from football to trucking to video games.

Young people explored their interests through interviews and visits to inspirational places, including Old Trafford and Junction 7 of the M6.
